Do newborn photographers provide props?

This might be the easiest thing to write out of all of the topics on my list! I love props - so so much. Not all photographers do, of course, but if you're here then hopefully you're local to the Joliet/Plainfield/Naperville Illinois area and you're looking for me. I have a fully stocked studio with baby sized beds, baskets, wooden trench bowls, dough bowls, antiques, and crates. As far as colors go, I have a wall of wraps in a rainbow of options, with different shades and textures to pick from. There are layers too, and tons of them! Layers go in the prop, under the baby, to add texture and interest to the look. I have wool, knit, and even fur to choose from. There's matching headbands and bonnets too, so we have a lot of fun picking things out.

There's something about prop sets that call out to my artistic side. I'm a collector by nature, and if you ask my husband I'm a bit of a prop hoarder. It's not enough to have different styles, I also need different colors of the different styles. What if you like more of a muted wood tone rather than a rich saturated wood stain? Or a cream neutral palette? We need options! Come to your session ready to make some decisions. I'm happy to help you pick what goes together, but ultimately that should be your choice.

That might be one area that I stand apart the most from my counterparts. I absolutely hate setting things up in advance for you. I've so often been surprised by the color combinations and preferences of my clients, and this stuff is WORK to set up. Can you imagine spending an hour taking down heavy items from tall shelves, crawling on the ground setting up multiple different prop sets, and having a client walk in to say "meh-it's not for me"? Believe me, I can! Everyone is so unique with their different styles and preferences, and it's definitely not my place to tell you that you should be using a particular shade of dusty pink instead of the mauve your entire nursery is painted in.

It's my job to give you all of the options, and we work together to make sure the combinations of prop, furry layer, knit layer, wrap, headband, or accessory all match perfectly. We will talk about how the different prop set ups would all look in an album side by side, or what colors you have your home painted if you plan to display canvases on your wall. It only takes a few minutes to pick things out when you arrive, and it's much more fun to do in person. It's just not the same digitally: you can't see the subtle differences in color tones or feel the textures of the fabrics.

Trust me on this one- don't overthink it beforehand. I have so many options and you will definitely find things that you like here. I have yet to be stumped by a request, and if you do have something special in mind feel free to bring it up beforehand. Custom sets can be a lot of fun, and doing an elaborate themed set is a whole different exciting challenge. I've done everything from Harry Potter to fancy Christmas themes with fake snowflakes falling down. Bring it on!
